we are bringing you another broadcast tonight from newtown, connecticut. a town where many students returned to school today. schools reopened with the exception, of course, of sandy hook elementary. the school that is now a crime scene. the students will go back to school after the holidays in a different building eight mile away with 20 bright young faces missing from the halls and the classrooms. everything is different now. the children in this town are facing a new reality. doing things they never should have to do at this young age, like writing goodbye letters to their friends. 6-year-old jack pinto was buried yesterday. the funeral, a note from his friend john reads, jack, you're my best friend. we had fun together. i will miss you. i will talk to you in my prayers. i love you, jack. love john. there were two more funerals today for two more 6-year-olds. jess they were laid to rest today. we will remember them tonight and honor them tonight. our hearts and our thoughts are with their families and their friends and we wish peace and strength to all

we are live once again tonight from newtown, connecticut, a community struggling with grief, reaching out to one another for comfort, beginning the long, long process of saying goodbye to so many young lives cut far too short. makeshift memorials we mind the people of this community that they're not alone in their grief. people stop by to leave candles and flowers, teddy bears, notes of comfort. it's a daunting concept, the idea of trying somehow to move on without the 20 six and 7-year olds. trying to move on without the adults that were also killed at sandy hook elementary school. moving on may not be possible for oolong time, if ever. it's not clear when the students in sandy hook will return to class, but when they do, it will be in a different building, in a different school in a neighboring town. everything is different now. everythingment. for the families here, this week is about trying to find a way to say goodbye, and to honor the lives of their children, the lives of their teachers and school administrators. there are three funerals scheduled for the rest of the week for th

we are again live in newtown, connecticut. it has become for all the wrong reasons main street usa. that may all change. plenty of news on that subject tonight with president obama laying out a plan of action today and the nra planning to speak on that later this week. for now, people living for the moment. for the families living hour by hour, minute by minute, second by second even. they aare tending to the sadly duty they have to bury the dead and to remember and to honor. daniel barden was always smiling and had two front teeth missing. his dad was a musician and he followed his lead by playing the drums. his family described him as a thoughtful boy when he noticeded kids sitting alone in the lunchroom in school he would join him. in an interview, his dad remembers teaching him to play "jingle bells" on the way to school >> we held hands on the way to the bus. and that was our last morning together. he did get up early that morning and ran down the driveway so he could kiss his brother good-bye in his pajamas. it was 22 degrees. he was exception aexceptional. >> his family says
